Death of a 15-year-old teenager in Châteauroux: the suspect was placed under judicial supervision

A teenager suspected of having killed Mathis, 15, this Saturday in Châteauroux, was placed in police custody. He had been under judicial supervision since April 22, five days before the events.

Saturday April 27, 2024, in Châteauroux (Indre-et-Loire), Mathis, a 15-year-old teenager died after being stabbed in the chest by a young person of the same age during a brawl. The events occurred around 6 p.m. on a public highway. Treated by emergency services early in the evening, the young boy died of his injuries a few hours later. The perpetrator was arrested, indicated this Sunday the public prosecutor of Châteauroux, Agnès Auboin.

In a press release, the prosecution indicates that the suspect had been placed under judicial supervision since Monday April 22, 2024, five days before the tragedy. He “has never been convicted by the courts and his criminal record is free of any convictions” explains the magistrate. His placement under judicial supervision was the “only safety measure provided for by the Code of Criminal Justice for Minors given his age, without previous convictions” she specifies.

Of Afghan origin, the perpetrator was legally present on French territory. “He carried out two knife robberies at the end of February and mid-April” specifies BFMTV. If no measure of deprivation of liberty had been ordered against him, the second theft had led to the opening of a judicial investigation before a judge in Châteauroux, on Monday April 22, we learn from the prosecution.

According to the public prosecutor, testimonies would allow us to "suspect that the mother of the teenage suspect could be involved in Saturday's events", words relayed by BFMTV. The 27-year-old woman was taken into custody. An investigation into intentional homicide was entrusted to the Orléans judicial police and the departmental judicial police service at the Châteauroux police station. An autopsy of the victim was ordered by the prosecution. In total, two criminal proceedings concern the perpetrator, including one for acts of aggravated theft with violence. For his part, the mayor of Châteauroux, Gil Avérous, asks in the columns of Le Figaro not to "stigmatize, Saint-Denis is usually a quiet neighborhood".
