In September 2021, ABC's medical drama returned to its 18th season. Fans were quick to point out the similarities between the 2005 pilot and the season 18 premiere. Ellen Popeo confirmed the season was full of special treats for long-time fans. Meredith wore the same button-down white shirt as her first confirmation.
It is the same shirt. "I think [ABC studios] kept that shirt," she said on Jimmy Kimmel live!. It was my idea to pay tribute to many things and many seasons, and give the audience things they should be looking for. It was my idea, and I still look for them. I didn't say "Let's do it", but I was vague. I saw the shirt on my wardrobe rack and asked if it was the same one.
Season 17 had many familiar faces, including Patrick Dempsey as Derek, Eric Dane as Sloan, Chyler Lee's Lexie, and T.R. Knight's George was not the only returning star of season 18. Kate Burton (Ellis Grey), returning for more flashbacks. Kate Walsh will be reprising her role of Addison Montgomery.
