Rod Stewart, a British rock legend, and Florida prosecutors reached a plea deal Friday. He and his son will now face trial for assaulting a security guard at a New Year’s Eve party nearly two years ago.

Rod Stewart's battery charge plea deal falls through

Rod Stewart and his son Sean were not present when Judge August Bonavita announced the cancellation of a hearing where a deal was to be made. They will be tried on misdemeanor battery charges.

This is the least likely time that a deal has been reached in this case. It has also been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although a sentence of up to one year is possible, it would not be unusual for Stewarts to spend that long in prison.

Police have stated that the Stewarts engaged in a brawl at The Breakers Hotel with Jessie Dixon, a security guard, shortly before midnight on December 31, 2019.

The Stewarts claimed they were part of a group who tried to enter a private party in the children's section at the posh hotel. However, they were denied entry. Police said that the group, which included children and created a disturbance, refused to leave.

According to the police report, Dixon intervened and Sean Stewart (41), got in his face. Dixon claimed that he placed his right hand on Stewart's chest with the back of it and asked him to move. Security footage showed Rod Stewart, 76 and Sean Stewart punching Dixon in the ribs.

Rod Stewart is a London native and a member of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His most memorable hits include "Maggie May", "Do Ya Think Im Sexy?", and "Tonight's the Night." In 2016, Queen Elizabeth II knighted Rod Stewart.
