Flesch was 13-under-131 after his second consecutive round of bogey-free play on The Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course. He's played the back nine in 9 Under.

Flesch stated that he did "a lot of the same things as yesterday." "I didn’t get off to an easy start. I parred the first five holes, but when I reached six I made a birdie. I then played another great back nine."

Flesch, 54 years old, won the 2018 Mitsubishi Electric Classic as his senior title. He was a four-time winner on the PGA Tour.

Flesch stated that she had been playing this week as if it was the last two months. Flesch said, "I don't hit shots that I'm uncomfortable hitting." I'm just being kind of, I hate that term "playing within myself", but I'm hitting shots I feel comfortable with and not taking unnecessary risks.

Langer, the 64 year-old German star and leader of the Charles Schwab Cup points standings had also a 67. In 2017, he won the Richmond event.

Langer stated that "the pins are hard and the greens very firm." It's hard to get the ball to stop near the hole when the pins in front are on. If the pins in the back are on, the ball won't cross the back so it can be tricky.

Alker, a 50-year-old New Zealander, had a one stroke lead over Flesch, after an opening 63. He was defeated by Flesch with a 70.

Alker stated that "I didn’t quite clearly putt as well." "Sixty-three, it's important to putt well. It wasn't there, but I didn’t give myself enough chances. The wedges weren't as close. The back nine was a bit rough.

Tim Petrovic (67), and Doug Barron (68) were both 10 under. Jeff Sluman (68), and Gene Sauers (88) followed at 8 under.

Jim Furyk was 7 down after a 68.

Phil Mickelson, the defending champion, closed with a quadruple-bogey 9. On the par-5 ninth for an impressive 74. At 1 over, he was tied for 49th.

Mickelson won Constellation Furyk & Friends in Florida two weeks ago, his third senior win in four career starts.
