This gripping thriller by Michael Douglas has an ending you won't soon forget. It airs on television this week.
There are films that remain unforgettable in the minds of many spectators for their unexpected ending, which can turn the brain upside down. In his filmography, David Fincher has distinguished himself in the genre, from Zodiac to Seven and Fight Club. Less known than these three films, this feature film broadcast this week on television is nevertheless one of those thrillers whose conclusion captivated the public.
When it was released in 1997, The Game foreshadowed an intense thriller full of twists and turns. We follow the life of a wealthy businessman, Nicholas Van Orton, whose life is perfectly ordered and structured, but lacks that grain of madness. He is particularly apprehensive about turning 48, the age at which his father committed suicide. As the fateful date approaches, he receives a strange gift from his brother who invites him to participate in a personalized game. After a series of tests to be able to participate, his application is finally refused, but he discovers at home a strange puppet with a key... Then begins a nightmare with no way out.
The scenario of The Game certainly does not lack a captivating tension and a rhythm carried out at breakneck pace until its surprising conclusion, which marked the spectators with its devious side and its sense of manipulation worthy of the great hours of David Fincher. The viewer can let himself be carried away by this strange two-hour enigma, carried by an excellent Michael Douglas. Sean Penn is also in the cast, along with Deborah Kara Unger and James Rebhorn.
If the ending of The Game remains memorable, it's difficult to know if it's for good or bad. If some were completely carried away by the totally unexpected final twist, others consider this surprising conclusion to be a failure, lacking credibility and having the effect of a damp squib.
