Better than “Intouchables” and “Le Bon Dieu”: this French comedy surprises everyone with exceptional numbers

This French comedy is off to an almost historic start for its launch. By making a better first day than the great classics it can become a new "Welcome to the Ch'tis" or "What have we done to the Good Lord"...

It's been a long time since a French comedy has caused so much excitement. Barely released in cinemas, this film is already achieving record attendance figures, allowing it to rise to the rank of the most popular comedies of recent years. It also did better than one of the Hollywood films by being literally acclaimed by the public on its first day of release. Enough to predict an excellent life for him in the dark rooms.

Artus' first film as director, Un p'tit thing en plus, is a feel-good comedy that follows a father and son on the run after a burglary, forced to take refuge in an adult summer camp with a disability and pretending to be a resident and his or her specialized educator. In the casting, the comedian plays the leading role opposite Clovis Cornillac, Alice Belaïdi and several budding actors, themselves with disabilities. With this film, the director said he wanted to “change the way we look” at people with disabilities.

Released this Wednesday, May 1st at the cinema, Un p'tit truc en plus has already made an almost historic start. According to information from the specialist site Boxofficepro, Artus' comedy achieved 280,000 admissions on this public holiday. The film is thus off to a better start than Intouchables and What We Did to the Good God?, two great classics of French comedy in recent years, which attracted 200,000 curious people on their launch day. However, it is ahead of Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis and its incredible score of 558,000 entries in just one day.

For Boxofficepro again, it is “simply” “one of the biggest opening days of all time for a French comedy”. Broadcast on “only” 400 screens, A Little Thing in Plus does even better than the Hollywood blockbuster Dune, Part II, which gathered 260,000 spectators on its first day of launch on February 28, on 500 more screens and with a much more imposing promotional machine.

In addition to its first public success, Un p'tit truc en plus received good reviews, with a rating of 3/5 on Allociné. The spectators, for their part, salute the film by already giving it a score of 4.3/5, still on the review aggregator site. We will have to wait a few more days to confirm this success, but such figures are nevertheless very promising for the future of the feature film. A little something extra is currently to be seen in cinemas.
