Without being an English-speaking production, this film has achieved the feat of rising to the top of Netflix's most viewed films since its creation. And you may have missed it.

It’s difficult to sort out the must-see streaming programs. With the proliferation of platforms and the flow of programs that are constantly dropping, we can get lost and sometimes miss programs that are nevertheless extremely popular. You may have missed this Norwegian film, which is one of the most viewed on Netflix of all time.

No one could have predicted the phenomenal success of Troll at the time of its release in 2022. And yet, this blockbuster directed by Roar Uthaug met its audience and is now the most viewed non-English language film on the streaming platform. The plot tells how the authorities call on an intrepid paleontologist when a legendary monster awakens. She has only one objective: to prevent him from sowing chaos on the planet.

In the casting, Troll does not bring together faces known to the French public but Norwegian stars. Ine Marie Wilmann, seen in Homesick or War Sailor, plays the main role opposite Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, from the Espen saga. Billy Campbell of The Killing and Cardinal is also there.

If we rely on Netflix's ranking, Troll is the most viewed foreign film (therefore non-English speaking) of all time on the famous platform. With 103 million views, it is ahead of The Snow Circle, Nowhere, The Platform, or the French film Aka. However, it is not Netflix's most viewed feature film in all categories, since it is outdone by the rest of the English-language productions, such as Red Notice (230.9 million views), Don' t look up (171.4 million views) or Adam Through Time (157.6 million views).

With such success, Troll will soon be entitled to a sequel on Netflix. Variety has confirmed that Roar Uthaug and his team will return for a second episode, which should see the appearance of a new monster and other creatures. According to Allociné, filming was planned for 2024 for a possible launch in 2025.

If you missed the movie Troll when it was released explosively online, it's not too late to catch up. The film is still available on Netflix, so you just need to have a subscription to the streaming platform to be able to watch it.
