Death of Philippe in Grande-Synthe: the cousin of a suspect attacked

The cousin of one of the young people indicted after Philippe's death was attacked in Grande-Synthe during the night from Friday to Saturday. His vital prognosis is not in jeopardy.

A few days after the fatal lynching of Philippe Coopman, a 22-year-old young man, a new attack took place in Grande-Synthe (North), according to information from BFMTV. A 15-year-old boy was attacked by several people during the night from Friday to Saturday. An investigation was opened by the Dunkirk public prosecutor's office for "intentional violence in meetings leading to incapacity for work for more than 8 days". She is entrusted to the personal violence group of the local Dunkirk judicial police service.

According to Charlotte Huet, the public prosecutor of Dunkirk, the attackers stole some of the victim's clothes. During the night from Friday to Saturday, this 15-year-old teenager was “a victim of aggravated violence”, explains the prosecutor to Le Parisien. The young man was taken to hospital, but his life prognosis is not in jeopardy. “The minor is the cousin of one of the people indicted yesterday,” she said.

“These are not acts committed following an appointment on a dating site”, further specifies the prosecution, in reference to the operating method which would have been used to trap Philippe at the start of the week. This attack comes four days after the death of the 22-year-old young man, in the same town of Dunkirk. He had been beaten by several people. Two minors aged 14 and 15 were arrested and then indicted for “murder”. This qualification was retained by the Dunkirk prosecutor due to the aggravating circumstance of “ambush”.
