In the Warner Bros. film, Kravitz (33), is a young burglar trying to find Anika, her roommate. Selina refers to her as "baby" in this film. This could hint that they are and not just platonic. In the movie, Anika is referred to only as Selina's friend.
Kravitz was asked directly if Catwoman was bisexual when she asked her Big Little Liesactress if she believed Selina and Anika were more then just friends.
Kravitz stated that "that's definitely how I interpreted it, that they had some sort of romantic relationship," to the Australian outlet Pedestrian.
Alum of High Fidelity , the High-Fidelity said that it was wonderful to see the character's bisexuality on the big screen.
However, director and cowriter Matt Reeves revealed that he was not necessarily thinking of Catwoman being queer.
"So I don’t believe we meant to go in that direction, but you have the option of reading it that way," he said in a separate interview with Pedestrian. "[Catwoman] shares an intimacy with [Anika], more than a sexual thing. But there was intended to be an intimate relationship between them."
Reeves, 55 years old, said, "[The movie] is] very faithful to the character Selina Kyle. Although she isn't yet Catwoman, all elements that will make her Catwoman are present.
Since 2015, Catwoman has been identified in DC Comics source material as a member LGBTQIA+. This was confirmed by Genevieve Valentine who confirmed decades of speculation in Catwoman #39.
There were a few emotional beats that I considered essential... One was establishing Selina canon bisexual," Valentine wrote after the issue's publication in a blog. "She has flirted with it, often literally, for years. This wasn't so much a revelation for me as confirmation.
Valentine said, "Please be assured Selina's longstanding relationship to Batman hasn't been forgotten; that isn't how bisexuality or humanity works."
Kravitz's movie role is the same. The Batman is a story about a young Bruce Wayne ( Robert Pattinson), who is now in his second year of his vigilante journey. He meets Selina while investigating Gotham's crime scene. There is a lot of chemistry between these two superheroes.
The Batman will be released in theaters Friday, March 4.
