Gérard Depardieu summoned by the police: the actor could be taken into custody for sexual assault

Gérard Depardieu is heard in a Parisian police station this Monday morning, with a view to being placed in police custody, to respond to accusations of sexual assault which allegedly occurred in 2014 and 2021.

The legal drama surrounding Gérard Depardieu continues. According to information from BFM TV, the 77-year-old French actor was summoned by the police this Monday morning with a view to being placed in police custody. The media specifies that he is currently in a police station in the 14th arrondissement of Paris.

Gérard Depardieu is summoned in connection with two accusations of sexual assault. Two women, one a film assistant, the other a decorator, say they were touched by him on two separate shoots: one says she was attacked in 2014 on the set of the film Magicien et les Siamese by Jean-Pierre Mocky, the other on the set of the film The Green Shutters by Jean Becker in 2021.

These two accusations were made public in the weeks following the broadcast of a damning documentary on the behavior of the film star by the program Complément d'investigations, in December 2023. Since 2020, Gérard Depardieu was indicted for rape and sexual assault after the complaint from Charlotte Arnould, who accused him of two rapes in 2018. Other women have also filed complaints against the French actor in recent years, like the actress Hélène Darras whose complaint was filed for statute of limitations in December 2023. Journalist and writer Ruth Baza also said she was raped by the actor in 1995. Gérard Depardieu, who remains presumed innocent, has denied all accusations.
