The president of the Île-de-France region detailed the transport plan deployed during the period of the Olympic Games in Paris. Strengthening the most popular metro and RER lines, shuttles, mobile application... We tell you everything.
Valérie Pécresse, president of the Île-de-France region and Île-de-France Mobilités, presented, during a press conference this Monday March 25, the transport system put in place throughout the duration of the Games Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. To respond to this “extraordinary challenge” with peaks of 60,000 users in transport equivalent to 1,000 people per minute, many lines will be reinforced , alternative routes and free shuttles will be offered.
In the metro and RER, line 14 called the “Jeux line”, which will transport up to 1 million people per day, or double, will be reinforced with eight cars per train and intervals between two trains of only 85 seconds. Metro line 9 and RER A and C will see their capacity increased from 60 to 70% with 300 additional drivers. The frequency of 8 other metro lines serving the Olympic sites will also be increased by 23%. The intramural RER C and certain metro lines (not yet specified) will be open all night on Saturday August 10, 2024 for the Marathon for All intended for amateurs between Paris and Versailles.
Spectators who go to the event sites furthest from transport stations, such as horse riding at the Château de Versailles, canoeing in Vaires-sur-Marne or even mountain biking on the Élancourt hill, will not be forgotten: free shuttles will be offered to reach them, i.e. “one bus per minute”. In addition, 2,000 additional Véligo will be available for a subscription at 53.90 euros compared to 40 euros over 6 months as usual. Finally, 150 shuttles will also be made available in 8 stations to transport wheelchair users and their companions to the sites, for 4 euros. As for the 45,000 Olympic Games volunteers, they will benefit from free transport.
Île-de-France Mobilités is also launching a “Paris Public Transport 2024” application, in May, which will provide users, in 6 languages, with the quickest route to take in Paris according to “the real-time distribution of spectators ". Travelers will also be able to purchase tickets and the Paris 2024 Pass using the app.
