Wednesday season 2: the official casting, departures and new faces

WEDNESDAY. “Wednesday” Season 2 is officially going into production. Netflix has announced new cast names, while some actors will not be returning.

We (finally) have news about season 2 of Wednesday. Netflix announced this Tuesday that production and filming of its new series would finally begin. The streaming platform took the opportunity to post a snapshot of the casting on social networks, and to announce new faces for this sequel.

Season 2 of Wednesday will see the appearance of several actors well known to viewers. Alongside Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones, we will find in this sequel the actors Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Steve Buscemi (Broadwalk Empire), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Joanna Lumley (Double Trap, Absolutely Fabulous), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense), Heather Matarazzo (Unhappy Princess) and Billie Piper (Doctor Who).

If new actors join the cast, others are leaving. In this photo, we note the absences of Percy Hynes White, interpreter of the love interest of the heroine Xavier, who had been accused of sexual assault at the end of 2023. according to information from Deadline, Naomi J Ogawa ( Yoko Tanaka) will also be absent, while Jamie McShane (Sheriff Donovan Galpin) will return as a "guest" and will be less present.

This sequel should focus on Wednesday Addams' stalker, whose presence was teased at the end of season 1. In addition, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar announced to the Hollywood Reporter that they wanted to further explore the relationships of the anti-heroine with her friend Enid but also with her mother, Morticia, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Season 2 of Wednesday will arrive soon on Netflix, no release date has been announced for the rest of the series. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter at the end of December 2022, the two showrunners gave more details on the storylines they wanted to develop in season 2 of Wednesday. “We want to explore and complicate the relationships [between the characters] in the future.” The focus should be more on the friendship between Wednesday and Enid, but also the relationship between the eldest Addams and her mother, Morticia, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is now aware of her daughter's power.

Wednesday was expected at the turning point, but Tim Burton managed to attract critics who praised the eight episodes available on the streaming platform. Allociné "loved [...] this series connected to 10,000 volts, which continues to change form and genre". Fantasy, horror, teen drama, thriller, there is something for everyone. For Télérama, this “teenage horror series seeks to bridge the generation gap, and succeeds quite well”. For its part, Télé Loisirs welcomes "a show bringing together all the codes of teen drama [...] but we definitely find the themes dear to the filmmaker".

Critics are also clear on the aesthetics of the Wednesday series, but also on the interpretation of the actors. Special mention to Jenna Ortega in the title role: “her investment matches the character” for the media specializing in TV news, while Ouest-France believes that she “brilliantly carries the series on her shoulders”. For the regional daily, “Netflix scores a nice coup with this new version of Wednesday, which will please young and old alike”. Please remember, however, that the series is not recommended for children under 13.

Synopsis – Wednesday Addams is now a student at Nevermore Academy. As she learns to harness her psychic powers, she must thwart a series of monstrous murders that terrorize the city, and solve the mystery that her parents were involved in 25 years ago.

Wednesday is one of Netflix's streaming events. This series directed by Tim Burton resurrects the famous Addams family, with Wednesday, the eldest played by Jenna Ortega, as the heroine. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, is released online on Netflix on November 23, 2022. For the moment, we do not know when season 2 will be released.

Before Jenna Ortega, it was Christina Ricci who played Wednesday Addams in the film "The Addams Family" by Barry Sonnenfeld released in 1991. Fans are therefore naturally wondering if the actress is making a return to the Netflix series. Indeed, Christina Ricci makes an appearance in Wednesday, but not as an older Wednesday Addams: she in fact plays Marilyn Thornhill.

Wednesday is a series to watch exclusively in streaming: Netflix is responsible for broadcasting this sequel to The Addams Family. You just need to have an account on the platform to discover the series produced by Tim Burton on your smartphone, tablets, computer, console or Smart TV.
