The Lost Daughter is based on Elena Ferrante’s novel. Olivia Colman plays Leda, a college teacher who becomes obsessed with Dakota Johnson's young daughter and a woman (Dakota Johnson), while on vacation in Greece. Leda's obsession for this woman leads her to recall her early memories of motherhood, including her encounter with Sarsgaard as a young woman.

Gyllenhaal stated that her husband is the subject of the movie's desire. "He has, I believe, a really sexy couple of scenes together with a brilliant young, beautiful, and incredibly compelling actress."

Sara Haines, host, joked, "So tell me why it upsets you."

Gyllenhaal stated that at first I thought, "Maybe it's not the best idea." But then, I realized, "I've been married for a long while. "We've seen so much. My husband is my rock. He could be more loving than me. Really, nobody."

Both the actress and director called sexual scenes an "unusual" and "weird” part of Hollywood life. She said, "The thing that makes this scene hot, I believe, is that she is hot for his mind -- her mind." What could be more sexy than that? He says, "I am into you mind."

The Lost Daughter will be in theaters on December 17, and is available for streaming on Netflix beginning December 31.
