Iran suspends execution of three protesters sentenced to death

The three defendants were involved in the events of November 2019, and suspected of having set fire to banks, buses and public buildings.

Iran has halted the execution of three people involved in the events of November 2019 and sentenced to death, has declared this Sunday a lawyer for the accused. "We have sent a request for a new trial) in the supreme Court and it was accepted. We hope that the verdict will be cancelled", said on the phone to Me, Babak Paknia.

The judicial Authority had announced on Tuesday the confirmation of the sentence of death for these three people, claiming that evidence had been found on their phones according to which they had set fire to banks, buses and public buildings at these events. According to a newspaper of iran, three prisoners sentenced to death Amirhossein Moradi, 26 year old, seller of mobile phones, Said Tamdjidi, a student of 28 years old, and Mohammad Radjabi, 26 years.

"We really hope that the sentence (of death) will be annulled, given that one of the judges of the supreme Court has already opposed the verdict," wrote the defence of the accused in a press release issued Sunday by the official agency Irna. The announcement of the confirmation of the verdict has stirred up a great controversy on the social networks and many web users have called for the stop of the execution using the hashtag "NePasExecuter" particularly on Twitter and Instagram.

the spokesperson for The judiciary Gholamhossein Esmaïli had indicated on Tuesday that the verdict could still change because of the "extraordinary proceedings", pointing out a clause in the law which could trigger a new trial if the chief Justice considered it necessary.
