Vikings Valhalla: is a season 3 planned on Netflix?

VIKINGS VALHALLA NETFLIX. As season 2 arrives on Netflix, is the streaming platform already preparing the sequel with a season 3? We tell you about it.

[Updated January 12, 2023 at 10:57 am] Historical series spin-off of the Vikings phenomenon, Vikings Valhalla is back on our screens since January 12 with an expected season 2. New project by Jeb Stuart which takes up here the Vikings universe created by Michael Hirst, Vikings Valhalla is set a century after the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. After eight episodes in season 1, eight new episodes are broadcast in season 2. Viewers, who will undoubtedly devour this sequel, will soon wonder if a third season of Vikings Valhalla is planned. The answer is yes !

After the airing of the first season of Vikings Valhalla in early 2022, Netflix renewed its series not only for a season 2 but also for a season 3. It must be said that the second season was already filmed shortly after the airing of the first, Netflix therefore already believed very strongly in the potential of this spin-off. Filming for Season 3 of Vikings Valhalla took place in the spring of 2022, which tends to lead us to believe that the sequel to the series could arrive relatively quickly on Netflix. It remains to be seen whether the streaming giant and the production will continue the series beyond the first three seasons or not.

Last March, Vikings Valhalla Season 2 was already filmed and in post-production. Jeb Stuart, showrunner of the series, had also spoken about this sequel to Collider. Stuart said in it that he sees this season 2 as having "a different vibe. The same characters go through the story and go straight down that path but they will be able to move and change. I see it as a continuous story but, in same time, each season has its own identity." Also note that a season 3 of the Vikings spin-off has been ordered by Netflix. In total, subscribers will soon be able to discover 24 new episodes (8 per season).

In an interview with the American media Collider, Jeb Stuart spoke about his way of creating Vikings Valhalla: by imagining seasons 1, 2 and 3 as a unified “block” to which other blocks could be attached later. "We really talked about seasons 1, 2 and 3 as a kind of block and then hopefully we could have seasons 4, 5 and 6 because the story is... I think you'll understand when you see seasons 2 and 3. It's almost like a novel." It remains to be seen whether Netflix will continue Vikings Valhalla by renewing the series beyond season 3!
