This American star plays a well-known video game character, aided by voice acting and technology. The result has already captivated fans.
We can no longer count the number of incursions made between cinema and video games. Dozens of video games have been adapted into films or series, such as The Last of Us. Many actors have also lent their features to console characters, such as Elliot Page in Beyond: Two Souls. The boundaries are thin between these two arts which use screens. Thanks to motion capture and dubbing, actors are increasingly called upon to give substance to a protagonist whose fate will then depend on the choices of the players.
Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the most recent examples. In this twelfth installment of the fighting game franchise, NetherRealm requested the help of a very well-known actress: Megan Fox plays the vampire Nitara. Excerpts from the game were revealed in a video released by Warner Bros. Game in September, and it's sometimes difficult to imagine the actress revealed by Transformers as this bloodthirsty predator.
“She’s evil but she’s also good,” describes Megan Fox in the video that accompanied the announcement. "She's trying to save her people...I love her a lot, which obviously...(laughter) resonates with me, for whatever reason." If the extracts show Megan Fox dubbing the character, she also played it in motion capture. No doubt her experience as a man-eating high school student (literally) in the film Jennifer's Body must have inspired this interpretation!
Mortal Kombat 1 is a highly anticipated video game that is billed as a reboot of the franchise. Developed by NetherRealm Studios, Shiver Entertainment, QLOC and Saber Interactive, this opus will be available on several consoles, such as PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC. See you on September 14, 2023.
