From January 25 to 28, 2024, Angoulême becomes the kingdom of the 9th art by hosting the 51st edition of the International Comic Strip Festival. Albums in the running, exhibitions, ticket prices... All the practical information

[Updated January 23, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.] The international comics festival opens its doors to the public this Thursday, January 25 in Angoulême, until Sunday, January 28. Artistic director Marguerite Demoëte wanted an edition focused on youth and creation and placed “under the sign of movement”. This 51st edition is chaired by Thomas Bangalter, co-founder of the electro music group Daft Punk, of whom we will remember the clip One More Time directed by Leiji Matsumoto, the creator of the manga Albator.

Japanese comics will have pride of place this year with an exhibition dedicated to Hiroaki Samura, Japanese author of the cult manga The Inhabitant of the Infinite, which follows the quest of a samurai over thirty volumes, and an exceptional retrospective by the mangaka Moto Hagio, mother of modern shōjo and more particularly shōnen-ai, which depicts homosexual love stories.

45 albums are in the running for the official selection of the 2024 Angoulême festival, with pride of place given to European comics, manga and comics:

Who will succeed Riad Sattouf, Grand Prix of the Angoulême festival in 2023? The authors who vote for the Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême will have to choose this year between the Englishwoman Posy Simmonds, the American Daniel Clowes or the Frenchwoman Catherine Meurisse.
