Jewels of Marie-Antoinette for a record amount auctioned

A diamond-pearl-pendant of the French Queen Marie-Antoinette has achieved at auction in Geneva for a record price. The historic piece of jewelry was auctioned for the equivalent of just under 32 million euros, as the auction house Sotheby's announced to s on Wednesday. The contract had received an anonymous bidder. The price exceeds the estimated price by a multiple of: Sotheby's had given the value of the pendant with a large pear-shaped pearl, with between one and two million dollars.

The sale of ten pieces of jewelry of the 1793 executed Queen in total were taken around 38 million euros. A diamond-encrusted brooch brought in almost € 1.6 million. Were auctioned, also pearl earrings and a pearl necklace.

The Queen herself could not save himself. She died in October, 1793, at the age of 37 years as well as her husband, king Louis XVI under the Guillotine.

In October, the jewels of the last Queen of France had been issued in London.
