Consumer recall alert on chicken legs sold at Lidl which could be contaminated with Listeria.

The government site Rappel Conso launched the alert this Thursday March 28 on chicken legs sold in more than 50 Lidl stores throughout France. These products would be contaminated with Listeria. The product in question are “2 thighs of white Label Rouge free-range chicken 550g”, as specified in the Rappel Conso sheet. This product from the Etal du Poulier brand was marketed between March 8 and March 20, 2024. Rappel Conso has published the list of stores concerned, mainly located in the west of France.

The recalled products can be identified by the following GTIN number: 20928865. The lots affected by this recall are those bearing the number “5044092272”. The expiration dates for the recalled products are displayed as March 17, 18 and 20, 2024. All have the “FR 53.121.001 CE” health mark. Rappel Conso indicates that these products may also have been sold in other brands. It is therefore advisable to carefully check the brand of the product and the numbers listed above. Consumers in possession of this product can contact the number "0800900343" for further details. Affected customers will be able to obtain a refund. The recall process is ongoing until April 12, 2024.

The government website states that the product should not be consumed and should be destroyed. As the organization points out, the bacteria present in chicken thighs, listeria, is responsible for the disease listeriosis. Rappel Conso specifies that consumers in possession of this product who present cases of “fever, isolated or accompanied by headaches, and body aches” are encouraged to contact their doctor. The site explains that listeriosis “is a disease that can be serious and has an incubation period of up to eight weeks.” In its most serious forms, it can cause “neurological complications and maternal or fetal damage in pregnant women”. The elderly, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals are a particularly sensitive audience to monitor.
