The Princess of Wales' health has been under scrutiny since abdominal surgery she underwent in January and her absence from the media since. In a video that shows her sitting on a bench, Kate Middleton begins by thanking the people who supported her during her recovery and indicates that the last few months have been "extremely difficult" for the British royal family. At the beginning of February, Charles III announced that he was suffering from cancer.

Kate Middleton explains that the abdominal surgery she underwent in January was initially considered non-cancerous. However, if the operation went well: “tests carried out after the operation revealed the presence of cancer”, she explains. She adds that she has started preventive chemotherapy. “This has of course been a huge shock and William and I have done everything we can to process and manage this situation privately, in the interests of our young family,” continued the Princess of Wales.

Looking back on her absence, Kate Middleton says she needed time to recover from her operation, but also to explain the situation to their children George, Charlotte and Louis. “I'm doing well and I'm gaining strength every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal,” she says before saying how much her husband, Prince William, has supported her. “We hope you understand that as a family we need time, space and privacy,” she asks. Finally, the Princess of Wales had a thought for all the people “whose lives are affected by cancer”. “Don’t lose faith and hope, you are not alone,” she concludes in the video.
