Fifty firefighters and seventeen vehicles were mobilized. By 6 a.m. the fire was out. Despite the rapid response of firefighters, the blaze left at least three people dead. One of the victims jumped from one of the top floors to escape the flames and smoke, reports Nice-Matin. A seriously burned person was evacuated by helicopter to Toulon. Two other people are in serious condition. Fifteen other people were injured and were transported to hospitals in Grasse and Nice Pasteur. A psychological unit has been set up.

"It's horrible, a real tragedy", told Nice-Matin the mayor (LR) of Grasse, Jérôme Viaud. "The investigation will shed light on the causes of the fire.
