Emmanuel Macron's "wedding photos" with Lula mocked: the president persists and signs

The photos of the French president's official visit to Brazil were the subject of numerous amused comments on social networks to which Emmanuel Macron responded in the same tone.

Published on the official social networks of the two heads of state, the images of Emmanuel Macron's official visit to Brazil illustrate the rapprochement of the two countries. The photos shared depict Mr Macron alongside Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in various locations in the Amazon rainforest displaying big smiles and sometimes holding hands. These images sparked a wave of amusement on social networks this Thursday, March 28 in the evening, where many Internet users, Brazilians in particular, compared these images to those of a “wedding album”. For example, one of them wrote about X: “They are going to get married in the Amazon and have their honeymoon in Paris.”

The French president responded to these humorous comments via his X account and chose to send a response in the same tone as that of Internet users. The president in fact wrote Thursday evening: "Some have compared the images of my visit to Brazil to those of a wedding, I tell them: it was one! France loves Brazil and Brazil loves France!" . In his publication, Emmanuel Macron even went so far as to reshare a montage featuring him with President Lula on the poster for the film Lalaland in place of the actors Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. A montage which has been shared a lot on social networks and in particular on X, which takes the photo of the two presidents hand in hand in the Amazon. A similar montage was produced based on this photo but this time using the title of the film Call me by your name directed by Luca Guadagnino in 2017. Emmanuel Macron took care to publish his response in French but also in Portuguese. Like the French president, President Lula played along by responding to Mr. Macron's post with emojis representing the flags of their two countries connected by a heart.

Behind these images which initially provoked jokes, the two heads of state wanted to highlight restored relations between France and Brazil. As indicated by HuffPost, the two presidents discussed various subjects during this visit, notably cultural exchanges between the two countries with a possible exchange of Brazilian students in France. In his post this Thursday, the president spoke of their “common determination to fight for forests and people”. Emmanuel Macron also returned to the established military partnership: “We saw the strength of our defense cooperation in Rio, with the launching of the Tonelero, the third submarine of our partnership”. As the media recalls, this good understanding between France and Brazil had crumbled under the mandate of the previous Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro. In particular because of the latter's insulting remarks towards Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron.
