It's been more than a week since Mattéo Michel, a 20-year-old hiker, disappeared in the Hautes-Pyrénées. This unconditional fan of the Chamois Niortais would have been trapped by the fog at nearly 2,500 meters above sea level.
Mattéo Michel has been missing since August 1 in the Hautes-Pyrénées. This 20 year old young man was hiking towards the Pic du Lustou near the Spanish border. However, faced with thick fog at nearly 2,500 meters, he had contacted his parents to let them know he intended to turn back. The hiker would then have gotten lost in the Rioumajou sector since he has not been found since this last telephone exchange.
The high mountain rescue services of Saint-Lary-Soulan have deployed a large system with seven CRS, helicopters, a canine team (with tracker dogs) and a drone. France 3 relayed the testimony of an officer on the spot: "Teams have been dropped off in the valleys. They have prospected and widened the area. For the moment, nothing has come of it." The terrain of the research is described as "hilly".
Two testimonies had indicated having seen Matteo near a shelter, the Thou hut. "One of the witnesses even briefly chatted with him. But the two couples say they lost sight of him a few minutes later," said La Nouvelle République des Pyrénées, which estimated that the young man's chances of survival " are now almost nil". His parents thus returned to their department of Deux-Sèvres, taking "to emphasize the commitment of high mountain rescuers".
The research system has been reduced in the face of the lack of progress. A tribute will be paid to this figure of the "Niort 1925" fan club during the next Chamois Niortais match on Friday August 11. In case of information likely to help the emergency services, contact the gendarmerie immediately by dialing 17 or the Vignec brigade on 05 62 98 60 07. Mattéo Michel is 1m83 tall and weighs 78 kg. He would be dressed in dark shorts, a t-shirt, orange trail shoes and a black backpack.
