Thursday March 21, a 4-year-old boy died at school during a nap in Beauvais. An investigation has been opened to find out the causes of death.

Shock wave in Beauvais. Thursday March 21, late in the afternoon, a little boy aged 4 died following a heart attack during a nap. An investigation was opened by the public prosecutor, reports Le Parisien, in order to determine the causes of death.

“It was the Atsem of the establishment who raised the alarm [after having] gone to see why he did not wake up at the end of the nap,” explained the mayor of the city, Franck Pia, to Le Parisien . Quickly, an emergency system was put in place within the Saint-Esprit school, located in the Saint-Jean district. A pediatrician from Amiens (60 km from Beauvais) arrived by helicopter. Despite the efforts made, the child could not be saved.

“We are all very affected by the death of this little boy,” said Franck Pia. “We do not have much information on the circumstances of the tragedy, but we are all grieving by this news. We will not fail to support the family and teachers." “Everyone is in shock,” also confided an elected official from Beauvais, recalling that the boy was “a priori in good health and had no predisposition” to heart problems.

Psychological support was deployed the same day. This Friday, March 22, specialists from the diocese are also expected to speak to the students and staff of the school. An autopsy must take place soon, said the public prosecutor.
