Last weekend celebrated Jon-Richard Sommernes (21) storesøsterens wedding in the middle of Tromsø city centre. Sommernes had on a samekofte.

Outside the restaurant in the main street, he was struck in the face by a man in the 30s.

the Man who now is under investigation, is said to have told Jon-Richard and his father that he wanted to turn the same.

– What we saw in Tromsø in the previous week is completely unacceptable, " says Mæland at the Norwegian broadcasting corporation.

If you had gone with the costume, had thrown out threats for you and being turned down, how would you perceive this?

– Completely unacceptable. No one should find themselves in to be exposed either for hate, threats, bullying, no matter who we are, so shall no be exposed to it.

We agree it is not

Sametingspresident Aili Keskitalo is one of them who expressed his support to Sommernes after voldshendelsen.

Keskitalo describes the incident as a terrible example of English hverdagsrasisme.

– We do not accept that just to put on the köfte is a provocation for others.

Now expect sametingspresidenten that the incident is being taken seriously.

What happened in Tromsø are hate crimes, and it must state, the police and the courts take seriously.

Monica Mæland agree and hope the man who is under investigation, given a clear punishment.

Municipal and moderniseringsminister Mæland believes everyone has a responsibility to work against hate crimes.

She highlights how important it is to impart knowledge and believe it is the best way to combat violence, bullying and abuse.

– It is very much about knowledge.

Mæland pull especially up the efforts and work of the sami wizards.
